Two Sleeps To Go

Well, another eventful week and only two nights sleep before the big feller gets here. To say that the kids are excited would be an understatement to say the least. They have been bouncing off the walls, and each other for days now. Our two latest editions to the farm, and also the last for a while now, arrived on Sunday after a four and a half hour round trip to central Brittany. Family peacock will hopefully bring bright colours and distinctive noises to the valley. Disaster struck immediately as the male managed to escape from the new enclosure. Fortunately after flying 150metres, he was exhausted and we managed to recapture him. The wee monster has been up to mischief as always. Caught here turning the hose pipe off again as the kids tried to clean the car. I think this will be his first proper memorable Christmas as he rapidly approaches number 3 birthday.
Spot the trouble makers. They still loved each other at this point but about 5 minutes later both were soaked and both were screaming at each other.
Tomorrow is the big night but, numbers have been dropping by the minute. We have just six of us for dinner Christmas Eve and our eighteen, expected on Christmas day, is now looking like 14 and a half.
Unfortunately Chrissies mum is in hospital, as is our neighbour Madame LeBaron. Our thoughts are with them at this time and we hope to see them fit and well in the not too distant future.

A yuletide poem.

Beechwood fires are bright and clear
If the logs are kept a year.
Chestnut only good they say,
If for long 'tis laid away.
Birch and fir logs burn too fast,
Blaze up bright and do not last.
It is by the Irish said
Hawthorn bakes the sweetest bread.
Elm wood burns like churchyard mould,
E'n the very flames are cold.
Poplar gives a bitter smoke,
Fills your eyes and makes you choke,.
Apple wood will scent your room,
With an incense like perfume.
Oak and maple, if dry and old,
Keep away the winter's cold.
But ash wood wet or ash wood dry,
A king shall warm his slippers by.
Anon

Have a very Christmas.

Lots of love
From
Auntie Heather

I hope everyone gets better soon and did the car end up clean?

Hope the peacocks are settling in well and haven't escaped again.
